How to Downgrade Gnome Display Manager 2.28 to 2.20 in Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic)

IMHO the new gdm 2.28 shipped by default with Ubuntu 9.10 is really just work in progress. It’s fine for what it currently supports, but it does not support the range of functionality that gdm 2.20 does. Perhaps the biggest issue is Multiseat X. Multiseat X is one of the best things about Linux. You can have several independent workstations all on the same computers, each with their own X Server. Apart from anything else, this can reduce a group of users’ carbon footprint by needing fewer computers and should be something that Ubuntu is shouting about and not hiding in some “legacy package” with all its negative implications.

Ubuntu Counter

The Ubuntu Counter Project - user number # 27841
The Ubuntu Counter Project is like a miniature version of The Linux Counter. It aims to catalogue the number of registered machines using the numerous varients of the Ubuntu Linux distribution.
Why? Because, quite simply, Ubuntu rocks.

To register your Ubuntu machines, simply register yourself as a user, and add your machines to your account.

Once registered, you will have a user button (like the ones below) to place on your website, in forum signatures or wherever you want!

Ubuntu One: Free Online Storage

Canonical has just released a new “cloud” service for all users: Ubuntu One starts today as an invitation-based Beta. There are two storage options momentarily: a free 2GB account and a $10/month 10 GB one. If you are familiar with services like Dropbox, Ubuntu One apparently does the same job.

Ubuntu one features

* Seamless integration with your Ubuntu based computer

* Sync files between multiple machines

* Access to your files away from your computers via our web interface

* Free 2GB Storage Plan

* 10GB Monthly Storage Plan ($10.00 (USD) per month)

System Requirements

To use Ubuntu One services, we require Ubuntu 9.04 or greater, a internet connection (broadband or faster is recommended) and Firefox or a similar standards-compliant web browser.

Access Ubuntu one from the following URL

https://ubuntuone.com

If you want to subscribe for an Ubuntu One Beta invitation, you simply have to go to the Ubuntu One website, sign in with your Launchpad account, and wait for the confirmation email.
